    Grand jury indicts suspect in 2022 stabbing that left 4 injured

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Court records show a Madison County Grand Jury indicted a man on assault charges for a stabbing that left four people injured in 2022.

    On June 2, 2022, HPD arrested Dexter Fitzgerald Houghton, 37, and charged him with four counts of first-degree assault. Police said the assault took place at the Academy Housing Complex on June 1, 2022 .

    The grand jury indictment, filed in March, states Houghton assaulted the four victims with a machete.

    HEMSI spokesperson Don Webster said three females and one male were injured with lacerations at the intersection of Academy Drive and Highway 72 in Huntsville. At the time of the incident, Huntsville Police said all victims were expected to survive.

    Surveillance video from the scene showed the male victim, who appears to be wounded, running from the scene and stumbling into the doorway of a nearby gas station.

    According to court records, Houghton’s jury trial is set for July 15.
