Van Diest Medical Center hosts Volunteer Appreciation
Van Diest Medical Center hosted a special Volunteer Appreciation celebration Tuesday, April 23, as part of National Volunteer Week. A light brunch was served and volunteers were welcomed by Lisa Ridge, chief executive officer of VDMC. Diane Doering, president of the VDMC Auxiliary, gave an update of the group’s activities.

Lynx girls a runner-up at Cadet Relays
IOWA FALLS — The Webster City girls track and field team put a cap on their regular season by placing second here Monday at the Cadet Relays. The Lynx won the 4×100, 4×200 and sprint medley relays, as Adeline Tesdahl, Cloe Savitski and Ellie Weinschenk ran on all three. Olivia Gallentine ran the second legs of the 4×100 and 4×200, with Isabel Grossoehme running the anchor of the sprint medley.

A week or so ago I was having a conversation with a friend and the subject turned to Little League baseball during our youth. I remember our team sponsor was a men’s clothing store up in Minneapolis (this, of course, was quite a few years ago). Although we weren’t much good at pitching, hitting or fielding, we were the “sportiest” looking team in our town. Our maroon and gray uniforms were so nice we didn’t want to get them dirty by sliding — on grass or the dirt infield.
