Penobscot County Jail relocation measure fails by thin margin
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A referendum that would have allowed Penobscot County to search for a site to build a new jail outside Bangor has failed, according to county officials. Voters across the county’s 63 municipalities voted down the measure with 32,219 yes votes and 32,334 no votes, county officials said. That’s a difference of just 115 votes. Overseas voters widened that gap to 136, bringing the results of the unofficial count to 32,503 no votes and 32,367 yes votes.
