Delano snaps two-game skid with win against Becker
DELANO – Close games and runs coming hard to come by have been no stranger to the Delano baseball team this season. Delano once again found themselves in a pitcher’s battle and came out on the wrong end of things in a tough 1-0 loss to Mound Westonka April 25. Neither team had much going offensively as the two teams combined for just three hits. Mound Westonka was the lone team to come out and score a run as they were finally able to break through in the top of the fifth. The lone run of the game came on a solo home run by C Esposito and that was enough for the White Hawks to get the win. Brody Geislinger had the lone hit of the game for the Tigers in the loss. It’s the second time this season that Delano has been held to just one hit and were shut out. Geislinger also took the loss on the mound despite tossing a gem for Delano. He went all seven innings allowing the lone run off two hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Irish softball team falls to Kimball, EV-W
The Maple Lake softball team suffered a shut-out loss to Kimball at home early last week then fell to Eden Valley-Watkins in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 25. The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then scored another in the top of the fifth, but their big inning didn’t come until the top of the seventh when they scored five runs to solidify their win.
Thunderbirds crush Lester Prairie on the diamond
The GFW Thunderbirds enjoyed a great day at plate on April 23 as they traveled to Lester Prairie and came away with a 20-6 victory. After a scoreless first inning, GFW scored one run in the second inning. Dominic Rose led off the inning with a walk, Sam Berkner was hit by a pitch and Lincoln Werner walked to load the bases. Rose was throw out at home plate on a fielder’s choice. With two outs, Ryan Hoffmann walked to force in the first run of the game.

Golfers competed in windy conditions, Tuesday, April 23 at a Wright County Conference West competition at Southbrook Golf Course in Annandale. MOUND – Coming off an important win over Hutchinson, there was no letdown for the Delano softball team as they hit the road for a matchup with Mound Westonka. It was all Tigers in the matchup as they made it three wins in a row with a convincing 12-0 win in six innings over the White Hawks April 25.
Track and Field golf tournament
Support the Maple Lake High School Track and Field team while enjoying an afternoon out on the golf course at the Maple Lake Track and Field Golf Tournament fundraiser, Saturday, May 5 at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Annandale. The winning 4-person team will take home $200 and the second-place team $100. Cost is $50 per golfer. Money raised goes to support the track team. Check in is at 3 p.m. with a shotgun start at 4 p.m. Golfers will play nine holes with a cart. Additional cash prizes will be given away for Mulligan’s, longest drive and closest to the pin.
