Downtown Houston receives $5,000 grant from foundation

Community Foundation of the Ozarks Inc. has issued grants to 11 southwest Missouri nonprofits, including one in Houston, to assist the organizations in reaching younger donors.

Downtown Houston Inc. received $5,000 to create a website and improve marketing.

The $50,000 in funding, made through the Shaping Tomorrow Grant Program, is supported by a gift from David and Stacey O’Reilly, according to a news release. Nonprofits could apply for funding to implement strategies for attracting Generation Z and millennial donors, or to join a cohort that will learn and adopt social-good software company Bonterra’s Jumpstart fundraising and capacity-building platform.

“To reach donors who think and give differently, nonprofits need to think differently as well,” said Winter Kinne, president and CEO of Community Foundation of the Ozarks Inc., in the release. “We’re grateful to David and Stacey O’Reilly, whose generous gift will help these grant recipients evolve their development efforts and create a new generation of impact.”

Over the years, Downtown Houston Inc. has engaged in numerous community betterment projects, including the Lone Star Plaza, the Lone Star Annex that includes space for University Extension, a meeting room and commercial kitchen; the Melba Performing Arts Center and the Houston Welcome Center.

It is a member of the Houston Community Foundation, which raises funds for scholarships and grants to better the community.
