From the band room to Orchestra Hall, it's a dream weekend for 55 local music teachers. They've been chosen to perform side-by-side with Minnesota Orchestra musicians this weekend.

They'll be performing Holst's “Jupiter” from The Planets and Hopkins High School Band Director Nora Tycast is still pinching herself.

"To be able to sit next to people that I hold in such a high esteem as some of the best musicians in the state of Minnesota if not in the world, to be under Maestro Søndergård, how powerful," explains Tycast.

The project also reflects new Music Director Thomas Søndergård’s priority to underscore the importance of music education and celebrate the contributions of educators who bring it to life.

Tycast and her trumpet will be in good company.

"Right in there, squeezed in between all of the good guys, so hopefully we'll do OK," jokes Tycast. "I'm sure I hope so. I practiced enough."

Tickets for the educators' concerts are invitation-only this weekend. The performances are Saturday, April 27, 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, 2:00 p.m.

But, you can hear Laura's full interview with Nora Tycast below.
