Rodent enters Sacramento restaurant during health inspection. What else was found?

Sacramento County Health Inspectors gave a red placard to a soul food restaurant after finding about rodent droppings throughout the facility in addition to the live rodent. What do these inspections mean? While a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, these are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection, according to the Sacramento County Retail Food Inspection Guide . A red placard, however, signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends an establishment’s health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination . In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed inspection. The county performs about 14,000 inspections annually and about 97% of establishments pass, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee. ‘Not going to stop': Sacramento business owner vows to open as planned despite break in

The owner of a cafe specializing in gourmet cinnamon rolls said the store was burglarized just a week before the official opening date. The owner of Cinnapop Cafe, Chhayleang Tang, posted on Instagram that the midtown Sacramento storefront was broken into on Nov. 4, sharing video of the shop’s shattered glass door. Tang said the burglary happened some time after 10 p.m. Wednesday, and that equipment and tools were taken. “What makes this situation especially heartbreaking is that we haven’t even officially opened our doors yet,” Tang said online. “We are still in the early stages of establishing our business, preparing for our grand opening, and working tirelessly to turn our dream into reality.” In an interview with The Sacramento Bee, Tang said construction equipment was stolen, including a tool cart, a drill and a saw kit. She did not put a dollar amount on the stolen items. Passenger killed in Rio Linda crash with parked big rig; driver fled scene, CHP says

A passenger was killed early Friday when a car crashed into a parked big rig in Rio Linda and the driver fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported about 2:20 a.m. near West Elkhorn Boulevard and Marnice Road in Sacramento County, according to CHP traffic logs. The car rear-ended the parked big rig, killing the passenger, CHP Officer Justin Fetterly of the North Sacramento office confirmed. The driver fled the scene, Fetterly said. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the CHP’s North Sacramento office at 916-348-2300.

Sacramento's Railyards is building momentum. New housing may have to wait until 2028

Even though a hospital, concert venue and soccer stadium are coming to Sacramento’s Railyards, the district may not see new residential construction for several years. There are two apartment complexes there now — Wong Center and The A.J. Apartments — but one of the district’s lead developers said recently that he believes the Railyards and other parts of Sacramento’s core may not see home building speed up again until around 2028. “We’re just not in a place where rents and the market are supportive of new development,” said Denton Kelley, CEO of LDK Ventures, the master developer of the Railyards district. “...It will probably take until about ’28 before we start seeing new residential projects in the Railyards and, probably, within midtown and downtown.” The suburbs have seen more solid job growth, especially along the Highway 50 corridor where Folsom and Rancho Cordova are located. Kelley said cited recent investments in those areas by firms like Solidigm and Micron . That area will probably outperform the rest of the market for the next three to five years, Kelley said. The Railyards will compete with those cities’ “lifestyle centers” like the Palladio shopping center in Folsom or the Fountains in Roseville.
