According to the non-profit organization, Maui Fair Alliance announced their decision to dissolve and cancel the 98th Maui Fair for 2024 because they were unable to secure attractions that would give fair goers the traditional experience.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get the commitments from the carnival activities that really make up our fair. And the shipping from Young Brothers to bring even a downsized carnival to Maui with maybe 6-8 rides, and a couple of small games was just beyond our financial ability to make it work,” said Maui Fair Alliance President Avery Chumbley.

The last Maui Fair was held in 2019 and attracted over 90 thousand people for the four day event and gave local artists, businesses and communities an opportunity to showcase their talents and contributions.

Operations originally started in 1916 and is deemed the oldest fair in Hawaii.

“It has been an honor to serve alongside dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who share our passion for celebrating the vibrant spirit of Maui,” said Chairperson of the Alliance Board Avery B. Chumbley. “While we are saddened by the decision to dissolve, we are

grateful for the memories and relationships forged over the years.”

The Maui Fair Alliance will now extend the opportunity to other groups and non-profits who wan to hold their own events, giving Maui residents a refreshing experience of the Maui Fair.

Officials said the alliance leaves behind the spirit of aloha and community collaboration and will donate the remaining funds to other non-profits.
