HONOLULU (KHON2) — The governor’s latest spending plan for the State includes skipping a $300 million deposit into the state’s retirement and benefit trust fund.

It also sets aside another $297 million to cover Maui survivor housing, food and assistance.

And would fund $65 million toward the state’s share of a legal settlement fund called “One Ohana.”

Lawmakers are adding conditions on how the governor spends the money.

“Without a clear housing plan that has been communicated to the legislature, that moves households out of NCS, the administration has not set forward a plan to fund non-congregate sheltering beyond June 24,” said Sen. Donovan Dela Cruz, Ways and Means Chairman.

“If non-congregate sheltering continues beyond June it seems the state will have to fund 100% of the cost of of FEMA ineligible households,” he continued.

The legislature would require the governor to report to them within 5 days of transferring general fund money for Maui spending, and give an annual report at the end of the next two capitol sessions after that.
