The announcement was made during a news conference at 11 a.m. at Holyoke Media on Suffolk Street. Chief David Pratt will retire effective on July 31st. Beginning August 1st, Holyoke Police Captain Isaias Cruz will lead the police department as interim chief.
In the meantime, a committee has been named to lead the search for a new chief. An outside consultant will work alongside to help facilitate the candidates.
About The Holyoke Police Department
The police department is located at 138 Appleton Street. Chief of Police David Pratt was appointed by former Mayor Alex Morse in July 2021 when Chief Manny Febo retired. Chief Pratt has worked as a Holyoke Police Officer since 1993, became a supervisor in 1999, and a Captain in 2011.
As of April 1st, there are 95 Holyoke officers, with 10 open positions. The ShotSpotter system picked up 13 gunfire reports in March, down 50 percent compared to March 2023. According to the ShotSpotter report , 7 gunfire reports were in the area of Adams Street. The report indicates that 40 rounds were fired during the 13 ShotSpotter alerts.

Operation Safe Streets
The Holyoke Police Department has been working in conjunction with several agencies to combat crime and improve community well-being. Operation Safe Streets launched in October 2023 after a shooting led to the death of an infant. Since then, there have been 202 people arrested in connection with criminal activities, including drug trafficking, firearm offenses, and other serious violations.
