James Islanders consider new ‘grand tree’ definition, could block developments
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The James Island Town Council is reassessing its zoning and land development regulations for grand trees. The town currently defines a grand tree as a tree having a diameter at chest height of 24 inches or more, but at a public meeting Thursday night, it considered a proposal that would lower that requirement to 18 inches.
