Holland Christian set to perform ‘Little Women’ this weekend

HOLLAND — Dozens of student performers at Holland Christian High School are preparing to take the stage.

The HCHS theater department will perform “Little Women” this weekend.

Performances run 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, May 2-4, at the Holland Christian High School Auditorium. Tickets are available, both for in-person attendance and livestream viewing, at hollandchristian.org/arts/theatre .

The team behind the show includes Jill Davis, a teacher at HCHS, as director; Zachary Rumley as technical director; senior McKenna Smith as student director; and junior Sami DeVries as student stage manager.

"We're very excited to present this show this year because it's such a heartwarming classic. 'Little Women' truly has the ability to make you laugh, cry, and reflect on your own relationships with the people that you love," Davis wrote in a press release.

Performances will feature 45 students from HCHS, with some students in both the cast and crew.

"While the story does revolve around quite a few female characters, it's a show that can be enjoyed by everyone," Davis said. "The themes of family and growing up are relatable to both boys and girls."

"Little Women," based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, is set in New England during the American Civil War. It tells the coming-of-age story of the four March sisters — Meg, Amy, Beth and Jo — along with their male neighbor Laurie.

The play spans several years of their lives and follows the sisters as they “grow up, fall in love, heal from tragedy and struggle to find their place in a wide and changing world,” according to a post on Holland Christian’s website. For more information, visit hollandchristian.org/arts/theatre .
