Greetings go out to my faithful readers. Wednesday night was our joint Lions and Rotary meeting, which took place at the Remsen VFW. They fed us a nice chicken and biscuit dinner, and it was well attended. Honorees for this year’s community service awards were Peter Ruben from the Holland Patent district and Susan Bartholomew from the Remsen district. These were given by both clubs to both individuals. The presenter for Peter was Gordy Dailey and Cathy Martin presented to Susan.
Route 28 reopens in Mohawk, German Flatts, DOT announces
MOHAWK — The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that Route 28 in the village of Mohawk and the town of German Flatts in Herkimer County has reopened. The road was closed in the vicinity of the bridge over Fulmer Creek on Monday, May 13, to facilitate bridge maintenance, which was completed more than a week sooner than anticipated, the DOT announcement said.

The Remsen boys and Poland girls’ track teams took home the crown from the Class D championship meet on Friday at Oriskany High School. The Tornadoes’ girls squad tallied 116 points. Remsen came in second (79), Bishop Ludden placed third (71), New York Mills finished fourth (68) and Waterville grabbed fifth (62).
