Construction begins on new Hockinson roundabout

Construction has begun to convert the intersection of Northeast 119th Street and Northeast 152nd Avenue inHockinson into a single-lane roundabout. After pre-construction, the intersection will be closed to through traffic from July to August.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of August and further paving, striping, signage, guardrails and lighting are anticipated to be finished by October, a city news release stated.

Through traffic will be directed onto an unannounced signed detour route during construction, according to the release. Local access to neighboring properties will remain open.

Due to a high number of severe crashes and two fatalities in the last 10 years, the intersection is a high priority for reconstruction, the release stated. Currently, traffic on Northeast 11th Street is controlled by stop signs at the intersection with Northeast 152nd Avenue.
