Hoboken Submits to Scrapping DJ Rekha From Spring Festival Lineup

HOBOKEN, NJ - DJ Rekha will not be performing at the upcoming Spring Arts and Music Festival as the contract would most likely have been rejected by the City Council, the City of Hoboken has confirmed.
The full lineup for the upcoming festival was released on Friday and includes the acts, All Saints Bold Dancers, 3 Dollars, and Arya Dance Company.
DJ Rekha was supposed to be the headliner, but after controversy emerged following the discovery of their pro-Palestinian politics, notably a playlist by them entitled ‘River to the C’, on their social media and the $20,000 cost of hiring them, it is understood that enough Council members would have voted against approving the contract.
"The contract, for various reasons, would have most likely been rejected by the majority of the City Council. As a result, the City looked to an alternative option for the Arts & Music Festival,” Marilyn Baer, a spokeswoman for the City, said in a statement.
The Arts and Music Festival occurs bi-yearly in spring and fall in Hoboken. This year’s spring festival will take place on Sunday, May 19th, from 11am to 6pm on Washington Street between Observer Highway and Seventh Street.
It is open to the public for free and features displays and sales by over 250 artists, crafters, food vendors, and local businesses.
There will also be two stages of live musical performances located on Washington Street between Newark Street and Observer Highway and on Washington Street between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.
The Seventh Street Stage’s musical line-up is as follows, starting at 12:15 p.m.
All Saints Bold Dancers
Arya Dance Company
Drum Den
Dream Boys
Zydeco Revelators
The Brooklyners
The Ebony Hillbillies
The Observer Highway Stage’s musical line up is as follows, starting at 12 p.m.

According to the City, the Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival is funded in part by a grant from the NJ Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism and sponsored by Ironstate, Veolia, WFUV, and the Hudson County Division of Parks & Roads.
The City added that Wheelchair accessible seating can be made available for each performance with a week's prior notice. Please contact Hoboken Cultural Affairs at 201-420-2000 Ex. 5102 to make a request. Accessible restrooms will be located near the main stage on Observer Highway as well as on Washington Street and Third Street.
