When Milwaukee County Stadium closed its gates for good after the 2000 baseball season, one of its most recognizable landmarks faced an uncertain future — until a lifelong Brewers fan stepped in to save it. Russ Klisch, president of Lakefront Brewery, bought Bernie Brewer's old chalet and gave it a permanent new home perched above his brewery's fermentation tanks, where it still stands today.

I asked bartenders for the best World Series cocktails. Most picked the same one

Among them, the Wisconsin Old Fashioned; the state's most infamous drink that skips traditional whiskey for brandy, a muddled orange and cherry, and (brace yourself) a splash of Sprite. With the Milwaukee Brewers set to compete in their first World Series since 1982, that gloriously divisive drink is about to get a lot more screen time.

Widespread Panic Tips Its Cap to World Series With First-Ever “Rebirtha” Opener in Milwaukee
In a fitting nod to the World Series, which opened with a Brewers victory at the nearby American Family Field, Widespread Panic kicked off its three-night run at Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater with “Rebirtha.” Appearing in the opening slot for the first time ever, the song references a town where “real life’s a game” and “baseball’s all that’s real,” making it a timely soundtrack for Game 1 of the Fall Classic. Meanwhile, a Brewers jersey bearing Jimmy Herring’s name was prominently displayed onstage in honor of the absent guitarist, with Nick Johnson continuing to fill in as Herring takes time to focus on his health.
