    17th Annual Pedal Hilton Head Island to impact traffic

    HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WSAV)- There is a big event coming up this weekend that could impact traffic in Hilton Head.

    The 17th annual Pedal Hilton Head Island, a cycling event, will be held on Sunday, May 5.

    More than 700 cyclists are expected to participate in this event.

    It will begin with cyclists staging at Lowcountry Celebration Park on Pope Avenue and then departing the park starting at 7:30 a.m.

    There will be several waves of cyclists leaving the park at scheduled times throughout the morning.

    Roads that will be impacted are followed below:

    • Pope Avenue and Palmetto Bay Rd.
    • Cross Island Parkway & 278 to/from mainland
    • Marshland Rd. and Town pathways
    • Gardner and Leg O Mutton Rds.
    • Beach City Rd.
    • Dillon and Union Cemetery Rds.
    • Fish Haul Rd.

    Sheriff’s deputies will be staged across the island to assist with traffic control at major intersections.

    The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is asking that travelers please take extra caution and remain aware of the increased number of cyclists on the road.
