Memorial held for former Hilton Head Island Mayor Tom Peeples

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WSAV) – A memorial was held Tuesday afternoon to honor the life of Lowcountry native and former Hilton Head Island Mayor Tom Peeples.

Peeples worked on the town council in 1989 and was re-elected twice. He would run for Mayor in 1995. He would hold the role for 15 years until he stepped down in 2010. Peeples is the first Lowcountry native to serve as Mayor and still the only person to serve more than one term as Hilton Head Island Mayor.

Before getting into politics Peeples founded Tom Peeples Builder Company which focuses on building homes on Hilton Head.

“He was always innovative, looking forward to the town and trying to maintain the beautiful scenery that we have here. Make it a great place where people could come live and play,” said friend Mary Amonitti.
