Kapolei upset of Mililani shakes up Lasquero’s High School Football Power Rankings
1. Kapolei (7-1) Last week: beat No. 1 Mililani, 25-7 Analysis: After shutting down the Trojans in the second half, it should be no surprise that the Hurricanes take the top spot in the state. Kapolei started off slow, but made the necessary adjustments it needed offensively while the defense brought relentless pressure all night long. Sophomore QB Jonez Nunuha is coming along nicely behind center and senior RB Mikey Kapahu continues to be a workhorse behind the best offensive line group in the state. The Hurricanes will not play another game for three weeks, so there is some concern that rust could be a factor in the OIA semifinals, but there is hope that standout WR Nikko Smith will suit up the next time Darren Hernandez’s squad takes the field.
