HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale College Tower Players featured a festival of student work starting from April 25-28 in Markel Auditorium.
The festival featured classic and contemporary one-act plays.
“It is a pleasure to present the hard work of young theatre artists to the campus community,” Christopher Matsos, chairman of the Hillsdale College theater department, said in a news release. “This is a unique opportunity for our students to select, rehearse, and perform old and new favorite plays.”
The performances featured the work of directing students.
Classic one-act plays included: “Riders to the Sea,” by J.M. Synge, directed by Mary Kate Kearney; “Overtones,” by Alice Gerstenberg, directed by Grace Bryant; and “The Dark Lady of the Sonnets,” by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Moira Kate Forrester. Contemporary one-act plays included: “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane,” adapted by Dwayne Hartford from the book by Kate DiCamillo, directed by Jack Leatherwood; “The Visitors,” by Del Martin, directed by Marc Sherman; and “No One Will be Immune,” by David Mamet, directed by John Jordan.

“Student-produced plays have a long and important legacy at Hillsdale,” Matsos said. “We’re grateful to our student directors and actors, to the theatre faculty who mentored them, and most of all to our audiences who came to appreciate our work and these great plays.”
The Tower Players, the branch of the theater department that produces plays at Hillsdale College, generally performs three main-stage productions each year as well as numerous one-act and workshop productions.
