HILLSDALE COUNTY — A new relay team takes the top spot in the 4x200, distance runners compete for the 1600-meter No. 1 ranking, and throwers continue to break personal records. There are plenty more impressive changes to the second edition of our Hillsdale Area Best rankings report.

Rankings for the Hillsdale Area Best boy track and field athletes and relay teams are subject to change. Rankings will lead up to the Hillsdale Area Best Meet, hosted by Hillsdale Academy and Hillsdale College at their new track and field facilities over in Hayden Park. That event takes place on Tuesday, May 28.

One of the biggest movers in the second edition of the rankings was senior Gavin Van Kampen of Jonesville, who surged ahead to No. 1 with a new PR time of 4:40.4 seconds in the 1600-meter race.

Hillsdale Academy sophomore Dawson Scharer took No. 1 overall in the 300 hurdles rankings, earning a new PR time of 41.77 seconds at the recent Bulldog Invitational.

Over in the 4x200 relay, the team of Tayshawn Bester, Brady Kling, Connar Rudy and Brayden Wright took over first place with a blazing time of 1:34.65.

Jonesville now holds No. 1 rankings in two relay events, after the team of Nicholas Fowler, David Fowler, Gavin Van Kampen and Carter Rounds ran their way to a 3:32.16 time at the Ralph Rice invitational. They now hold the 4x400 and 4x800 No. 1 spots.

Hillsdale Academy senior Dominic Scharer continues breaking school and personal records. His 161 feet, 6 inches discus throw in SCAA competition last week was a personal best for the Charger commit. He now holds the No. 1 ranked spot in all Division 4 confirmed discus throws this season.

Below are the top five rankings per individual event. Rankings are updated as of April 29. Only one relay team per school is included per event.
