One individual was arrested overnight Wednesday following a four-hour law-enforcement standoff with an armed and barricaded subject in Highland Park.

A media release from the City of Highland Park says police responded at approximately 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, to the 1500 block of McDaniels Avenue for a report of domestic violence.

An individual reportedly was armed with a machete and barricaded inside a room of a house when police arrived. Police “safely evacuated” the home of multiple individuals, according to the release.

Highland Park police declined to comment on if anyone was injured during the incident.

Authorities attempted to negotiate with the subject, but following a lack of response, called in a regional emergency services team. The incident reportedly was “peacefully resolved” at approximately 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, when the barricaded individual was taken into custody.

The individual was charged with two counts of domestic battery, the release says. The Record does not publish arrest details related to domestic violence in order to protect the identities of any potential victims.

City officials did not immediately return The Record’s message requesting more information.
