According to police, a 2013 Hyundai was heading north on North Main Street, approaching the Skeet Club Road intersection, as a 2018 Thomas Built school bus was heading south on Skeet Club Road.
The Hyundai reportedly tried to turn right onto Skeet Club Road “at a high rate of speed” and drove into the oncoming lane of traffic, hitting the school bus. Police estimated that the car was going about 55 mph.
The Hyundai “hooked the cabin portion of the bus and rotated under the bus, causing the front of [the Hyundai] to peel back, exposing the interior of the vehicle.”
The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a hospital with possible head trauma and lacerations from glass. The passenger in the Hyundai complained of hip pain but was not taken to a hospital.
The bus driver was not hurt, and a child who was on the bus “was unable to advise on injuries and was transported by parents for an evaluation.”
The crash resulted in about $20,000 in damage to the Hyundai and about $15,000 in damage to the bus.
The driver of the Hyundai is being charged with speeding-failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, speeding-exceeding stated limit and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane control.
