    Bluejackets girls win LSC title; boys place fourth

    CLOQUET—The Hibbing High School girls track team turned five first-place finishes into a Lake Superior Conference Track and Field title held Tuesday.

    The Bluejackets scored 155.5 points, compared to 142.5 for Cloquet. Proctor had 121, Grand Rapids 95.5, Superior 64.5, Duluth Denfeld 53, Hermantown 40 and Duluth Marshall 22.

    Hibbing got firsts from Tara Hertling in the 800 (2:20.02); Mileena Sullivan in the 1600 (5:16.01) and 3200 (11:35.11); Hattie Eskeli, Andrea Petroske, Rylee Moellering and Brynn Babich in the 4x100 (52.72); and Hertling, Brynn Babich, Hannah Farnsworth and Jorie Anderson n the 4x400 (4:11.88).

    Second-place finishes went to Babich in the 400 (61.20); Jocelyn Strukel in the 3200 (11:38.21); Hertling, Avery Kukowski, Farnsworth and Anderson in the 4x800 (9:44.88); and Gianna Manning in the high jump (4-feet-8-inches).

    Placing third were Eskeli in the 100 (13.73); Jocelyn Strukel in the 800 (2:25.08) and Alizah Langner in the pole vault (8-0).

    Other Bluejacket places were as follows:

    200—6. Abigail Theien 28.76; 7. Rylee Moellering 29.21; 8. Gianna Figueroa 29.24.

    Shot put—6. Arianna Ellis 28-8; 7. Isabelle Walto 28-7; 12. Adrionna Vittori 26-4.

    Discus—8. Walto 80-0; 12. Ellis 74-0; 18. Vittori 60-2.

    Pole vault—6. Zika 7-0.

    Long jump—5. Moellering 14-8.75; 6. Babich 14-8.50; 10. Mount 13-9.50.

    Triple jump—5. Gianna Manning 29-3.25; 5. Cooley 29-3.25; 8. Hertling 29-1.

    High jump—6. Eskeli 4-6.

    BOYS

    Cloquet won the title with 152.5 points, followed by Proctor with 135, Grand Rapids 109 and Bluejackets 105.

    Duluth Denfeld had 73.5, Superior 56, Hermantown 45 and Duluth Marshall 24.

    Hibbing had one first-place finish, Aiden Shepherd in the shot put (49-10).

    Second-place finishes went to Brady Janezich in the 3200 (10:24.74); Janezich, Lucas Arnhold, Jake Walli and Jack Bottoms in the 4x800 (8:38.47); and Austin Valento in the pole vault (10-6).

    Finn Eskeli had two third-place finishes in the 200 (23.32) and 400 (52.85); Gino Gherardi, Mason McDonald, Christian Massich and Elias Langner in the 4x200 (1:37.93); and Adam Reckmeyer in the high jump (5-10).

    Other Hibbing placers were as follows:

    CHERRY—Isaac Asuma tossed a six-inning, four-hit gem, and he also collected four hits and three RBI as the Tigers beat the Warriors at home Tuesday.

    Asuma struck out seven. He also hit a triple as one of his four hits.

    Noah Sundquist had three hits, including a double and three RBI, for Cherry, and Carson Brown had two hits.

    Storlie, King, Gotchie and Mann had the Deer River hits.
