Local medical officials discuss physician shortage in Iowa
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Healthcare workers are coming together to encourage more physicians to come to, and stay in Iowa. It stems from a national shortage. “It hits us particularly hard in Iowa where, per capita, we’re actually ranked 45th out of 50 states in terms of patient-to-physician ratios,” said President of the Iowa Medical Society Dr. Christi Taylor.
Xavier freshman Gabi Fleming makes history with State singles crown
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Gabi Fleming-a 9th grader from Xavier-joins elite company as one of the few freshman in Iowa history to win a singles State championship. Fleming beat Waterloo Columbus sophomore Kate Holton in the finals 7-6, 6-1. Fleming is only the second Xavier tennis player to win a State singles title, joining Emma Tallett who won the crown in 2022.

Hy-Vee announces temporary measures to follow closure of Cedar Rapids store
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Hy-Vee announced has announced plans to support the neighborhoods around the store it’s closing on First Avenue in Cedar Rapids. June 23 will be the last day for the Cedar Rapids store. The closure will create what’s called a “food desert,” a place where people don’t have easy access to fresh, healthy food. Hy-Vee announced that closure, along with a Waterloo and a Davenport location, earlier this month.

Even in spite of the current decadent and oppressive moral atmosphere dominating Iowa politics today, there are still refreshing breaths of fresh air. Unitarian-Universalist churches and fellowships (often called “UU’s”) have had a long and positive historic presence throughout America, as well in Iowa. Great philosophers and thinkers such as Emerson and Thoreau and many others frequented meetings. UU attendees are known for being considerate of all beliefs and for encouraging one to be open-minded, to learn, and to seek one’s own truth.
Springville residents concerned over DOT plan to build interchange on Highway 151
SPRINGVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - On Thursday evening, people in Springville voiced concerns at a public meeting held by the Iowa DOT over a proposed interchange at Highway 151 and Linn County Road X-20. It’s an area the Iowa Department of Transportation started looking into more than a decade ago because they say it’s not safe. Transportation Department data shows it’s seen more than a dozen crashes in the past five years.
