A man already being sought on felony arrest warrant was arrested this week after leading Apple Valley deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Hesperia, authorities said.

Maurice Bowman, 27, of Victorville, was booked on suspicion of evading police with reckless disregard for public safety, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said. He already had a felony arrest warrant issued out of Riverside County.

The encounter began about 7:35 p.m. when a deputy assigned to the Sheriff's Apple Valley Station responded to  a report of a "suspicious vehicle" in the 22000 block of Itasca Road," the agency said in a written statement . A witness reported the car had been parked along the street overnight with its engine running.

Two deputies approached Bowman and told him to get out of the vehicle, officials said.

"He instead sped away from the location," according to the statement. The pursuit lasted more than nine minutes, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

The chase continued into Hesperia, where the driver crashed at Rock Springs Road and Glendale Avenue, officials said. The driver was then arrested.

Bowman posted bail and was released from custody Friday pending legal proceedings, records show.
