The Lady Pirates maintained their lead until the top half of the sixth inning when South Central tied the game. South Central scored the go ahead run in the top of the seventh on a single that scored a run.

Hunter, Lilly Winslow, Karsyn Clayton and Bristyl Riddick each had a hit in the game for the Lady Pirates.

Perquimans 10, Martin County 9After falling by one run earlier in the week, the Perquimans Lady Pirates softball team defeated previously undefeated Martin County 10-9 in extra innings on Friday, April 19.

Baseball

Martin County 5 Perquimans 4In a close game at Martin County, the Perquimans County High School Pirates fell 5-4.

The Pirates held a 4-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, but a five-run fifth for the Knights gave them a lead that they would not relinquish.

It was the first conference loss of the season for Perquimans.

Maddux Thach and Jacob Askew combined for four of the six hits on the night for the Pirates. Askew and Collin Roberts had the four runs batted in.

Thach pitched five innings for Perquimans, giving up five unearned runs. He walked three and struck out seven. Connor Futrell pitched the sixth inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.

The Knights scored all of their runs in the fifth inning that started with a Perquimans error. Thach struck out the next two batters, but a Martin County hitter then singled, and the next hitter walked to load the bases.

Another walk scored the first run for the Knights. Back-to-back errors pushed across the plate three more runs, and a single scored what proved to be the winning run — all with two outs in the fifth.

Perquimans 7, Martin County 3The Perquimans Pirates baseball team scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 7-3 win over Martin County Friday night.
