Cult horror spoof takes the stage at The Renner Theater
Zane Trace Players will bring a 1950s B-movie spoof to Zanesville when “The Monster of Phantom Lake: The Musical!” opens Oct. 23 at The Renner Theatre . The show marks the musical's Ohio premiere, according to a community announcement. Written by Christopher R. Kevin McCarthy and Kerby Staker play the garbage men doing the dumping, while Lee Hoover and Thomas Hoover portray cops who patrol in a canoe. The cast also includes a group of recently graduated teenage couples: Penny, played by Mayah Dalton; George, played by Ashton Skoutelas; Amy, played by Katelinn Kiney; and Jonathon, played by Ethan Rodriguez. Hunter St. in Logan, recently partnered with local artist Joleanna Designs to transform its drive-thru walls into a colorful tribute to the beauty, personality and outdoor adventures of the Hocking Hills region. The project features five custom 6-by-8-foot murals that tell a continuous story of the iconic Little Caesars mascot exploring the area through the changing seasons. Caesar’s adventure begins on a spring morning as he drives into Hocking Hills in a little orange Volkswagen Beetle. From there, he explores Old Man’s Cave, enjoys a summer afternoon paddleboarding on Lake Logan, takes in the brilliant fall colors at Cantwell Cliffs and ends his journey camping beneath the stars. Food vendors serve up memories at the Fairfield County Fair
LANCASTER − The Fairfield County Fair provides lots of fun to thousands of visitors each year. From rides, games, meeting old friends and various events during the week, the fair is the heart of the community. One of the main offerings has always been food. And plenty of it. Hungry fairgoers this year could find a variety of items from the chicken and noodles in the dining hall to a burger from a concession stand and everything in between. Under the main grandstand, local high schools offered concessions that feature sandwiches and soup, such as chili. Local church groups also have concessions, like the Cattleman that offered burgers and chicken sandwiches. There was even a vendor this year that offered a vegetarian dish featuring grilled vegetables. That's not something typically seen at a county fair, but it seemed like there was always a people at the stand watching their meals being prepared. Of course, like most any fair, the Fairfield County Fair had the fan favorites like pizza, fries, ice cream, corn dogs, popcorn, candy apples, funnel cake, gyros, cheese curds and much more. Maybe some of the fan favorites are not the most healthy, but they certainly are fun

New 'active lifestyle destination' has pickleball, soccer, beer garden
The Bend NKY , a new family-friendly sports and entertainment complex, is officially open in Hebron. The roughly 5.3-acre site at 1930 Conrad Lane features seven indoor pickleball courts, two indoor turf soccer fields, gathering areas and private event spaces, as well as a bar, outdoor patio, mezzanine viewing area and rotating food trucks, according to a press release. An outdoor turf soccer field is expected to open later this year, while The Backyard at The Bend, an outdoor beer garden, is slated to open by mid-2027. According to the release, The Bend NKY co-founder Brad Trauth had owned the Conrad Lane property for about eight years when the development of a multi-use bike path through the property inspired the idea for the facility. “We wanted to build more than courts and fields. Our vision was to create an active lifestyle destination where people could come together, stay active and build meaningful connections," Trauth said in a statement. "The Bend is about bringing people together through sports, recreation and community, and we’re excited to see that vision come to life." The Bend's indoor spaces can also be rented for private events, including birthday celebrations, team gatherings and corporate outings. This
