Skies clearing out for Mother’s Day
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A weak cold front brought a few showers to the mountains on Saturday, however high pressure is moving in and clearing out our skies for Mother’s Day. As our skies clear, it is going to be another night to look outside to possibly see the Aurora Borealis. The Geomagnetic Storm that caused the northern lights on Friday night, will continue into early Monday. While it’s not a sure bet, there is at least a small chance of seeing the northern lights again early on Sunday and Sunday night into Monday.
Tri Cities considering wastewater solutions
The cities of Cumberland, Benham and Lynch are searching for a solution to issues with each of the cities’ wastewater facilities. Perry man gets 20 years in Breathitt fentanyl case
A Perry County man was sentenced recently to serve 20 years in prison related to a Breathitt County fentanyl case. According to court documents, on April 19, 39th Circuit Court Judge Lisa H. Whisman sentenced Joseph Thomas, 37, of North Main Street Hazard, to serve 20 years on a charge of aggravated trafficking in a controlled substance (greater than or equal to 28 grams of fentanyl.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Haley Huffman is an ARH Mountain Student Achiever. Huffman is a senior at Shelby Valley High School, where she has a 4.5 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. Huffman has maintained at least a 4.0 GPA throughout her time in high school.

A community together for a moment of silence
The National Day of Prayer was commemorated across the commonwealth May 2, drawing together people of all denominations and inviting neighboring communities to unite in prayer. The event in Hazard was held at the amphitheater beside City Hall, led by Pastor Tim Reynolds of Hazard First Baptist and supported by a youth service team from Grant Career Center in Bethel, Ohio.
