    Canes host 5-school track meet

    On a sunny day with a cold wind, the Hayward Hurricanes track and field teams hosted their only home meet of the season Thursday, May 9. The Hurricane boys placed first out of five teams and the Hurricane girls took second out of five teams.

    As in previous meets, the Hurricanes dominated the running relays, with the girls winning four relays, and the boys winning three relays.

    Boys team scores: Hayward,128.50; Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, 66; Ladysmith, 60; Cameron, 57; Barron, 52.50.

    Hayward first places: Gannon Mohr, 200m dash, 24.27; Ben Laird, 800m run, 2:07.73, and 1,600m run, 4:35.97; Evan McConnell, 3,200m run, 10:29.83; Lucas Hansen, 110m hurdles, 16.62, and 300m hurdles, 41.54; Logan Poppe, pole vault, 10-00; jump, 4 X 400m relay, Hayward ‘B’ (Austin Ewert, Cade Schlapper, Brendan Young, Ben Laird) 3:41.53; (4 X 100m throwers relay (Conner Judy, Micah Butler, Sterling Hecker, Bradey Gottwald), 52.90; 4 X 800mm relay (Aiden Susedik, Braden Young, Seth Becker, Austin Ewert), 9:21.52.

    Second places: Evan McConnell, 1,600m run 4:36.32; Seth Becker, 3,200m run, 10:48.62; Bradley Young, 300m hurdles, 46.74; Bradley Young, high jump, 5-10;

    Third places: Brock Chucka, 100m dash, 12.10; Cade Schlapper, 400m dash, 55.82; Alex DePew, long jump, 19-04.75; Bradey Gottwald, shot put, 41-00;

    Fourth places: Austin Ewert, 800m run, 2:10.69; Brendan Young, high jump, 5-04; Cade Schlapper, triple jump, 35-07.5; Bradey Gottwald, discus throw, 122-06; 4 X 200m relay (Brendan Young, Brock Chucka, Anthony Aranda, Alex DePew), 1:37.75.

    Fifth places: Brock Chucka, 200m dash, 24.74; Christian Larson, 3,200m run, 11;36.31; Alex DePew, high jump, 5-02; Brendan Young, long jump, 17-08.50; 4 X 100m relay (Logan Poppe, Viktor Enk, Anthony Aranda, Sterling Hecker), 47.68.

    Girls team scores: Cameron, 120; Hayward, 107; Barron, 49; Ladysmith, 49; Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, 46.
