Hayden Meadows Elementary placed on safety hold

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho -- An elementary school in Hayden, Idaho was placed on a safety hold on Monday afternoon.

On April 15, Hayden Meadows Elementary was placed on a safety hold while sheriff's conducted a welfare check in the area.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, the welfare check was for a person who was last seen about an hour before the school went into a safety hold.

Sheriffs believed the person was walking in the area and so, the school, out of an abundance of caution, entered a safety hold.

The welfare check was unrelated to Hayden Meadows Elementary and no threats were made toward the school.

The school's principal performed a modified release for dismissal, requiring parents to pick their children up from school and no students were allowed to walk home. Buses continued to run normally.

No further information was released about the welfare check.
