HONOLULU (KHON2) — Big Island officials have charged 31-year-old Kea‘au man, Vasiliy Viktorovich Trubackev, with attempted murder following the attack that left a 32-year-old Puna man with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to HPD, the incident happened just before 11 a.m. on Friday.

Officers were initially responding to a disturbance on 7th Avenue but were informed that a man was reportedly shot during an altercation.

HPD was informed that a 31-year-old male acquaintance of Trubackev was reportedly threatening people while armed with a knife and glass bottle before running away on foot.

According to a news release, one witness told officers “that there was a male on the side of the roadway” around 6th Avenue and Makuu Drive who “appeared injured and bleeding.”

Upon further searching the area, officers were able to locate the victim who was reportedly shot multiple times by Trubachev.

The man was transported and hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room where he remains in stable condition.

On Sunday, Big Island Prosecutors and detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section discussed the case before charging Trubachev with second-degree attempted murder and carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.

According to HPD, Trubackev’s bail is set at $1.1 million.
