Shemwell murder trial set for June 3
The trial of Cylar L. Shemwell, on charges of being part of a January 2019 shooting on Audubon Avenue that killed three men and seriously injured a woman, will go forward. Shemwell, 37, of the 1600 block of Wisteria Gardens, was charged with three counts of murder and one count of first-degree assault in the deaths of Jay Michael Sowders, Christopher Carie and Robert D. Smith on Jan. 17. 2019. Carmen Vanegas was also shot during the incident, but survived.
Help Office providing more than food assistance
The Owensboro Help Office, 1316 W. 4th St., held two open houses Wednesday to spread the word about its many services and how much need it sees in the community. “We just wanted to raise awareness,” said Sydney Settle, chairwoman of the Help Office board. “A lot of people know our name, but they haven’t actually been in the doors and know what happens every single day. January trial set for man charged with murder and assault
A trial date for an Owensboro man facing charges of murder, burglary and first-degree assault in separate incidents has been scheduled for trial early next year. Talen M. Johnson, 23, of the 700 block of Walnut Street, has been incarcerated at the Daviess County Detention Center since June, 2019.
