New food truck brings unique flavors to Abilene
Something brand new has rolled into Abilene. Don's Mobile Kitchen celebrated the grand opening of its new food truck July 25 outside Velocity Tire, 1021 N. Judge Ely Blvd. D'Anthies Harris is the food truck's owner. The 28-year-old entrepreneur was originally born in Abilene before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 5. Although he lived in Memphis for most of his life, Harris decided in 2020 to move back to Texas to be closer to family and new opportunities. "I was in the DFW area for a little while," said Harris. "Then I was working at this warehouse, and I decided to get my CDL, so I started driving trucks." Shortly after, Harris moved back to the Abilene area and found himself inspired to get into a different type of truck, the kind that offers delicious meals and powerful flavor. "I have a brother. He actually sparked my mind because he was in Fort Worth and he had his business, which is Canes, Wings and Beans," said Harris. "He sells wings, catfish, stuff like that. So he kind of sparked my mind to do something like this." After almost two years of brainstorming menu ideas,

Abilene mom simplifies dinner stress with meal prep | Exclusive
Alissa Guerra is a full-time mom and a full-time business owner, operating as the entrepreneurial mind and chief behind Mama Made Meal Prep , a local Abilene meal prep service. And Guerra's goal is simple. To take some of the stress off of her customers' plates by providing healthy and hearty, fully cooked meals while also prioritizing being a mom to her young son. "I'm so grateful that people love my food, and I'm getting to help families and, in turn, they're helping me financially be able to contribute to my family," said Guerra. "And I get to have five of those seven days with my son. I have to cook one day; I deliver the next, and the rest I still get to be a stay-at-home mom." It all started in January of 2026, when Guerra's mom said she wanted to start eating healthier and began asking Guerra to meal-prep lunches for her to bring to work. "I started making balanced meals just for her, and before long, people at her work were seeing and smelling her lunches and started asking where she got them," said Guerra. "And that's when I got the courage to start." At the time,
