HS Softball: Hasbrouck Heights Rallies for Senior Day Win

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ – Senior Cayle Daniels' walkoff RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in senior Anna Lisse Vasquez as Hasbrouck Heights defeated Elmwood Park, 7-6, on Senior Day at Hasbrouck Heights on Thursday.   Hasbrouck Heights improved to 8-7 overall with the non-divisional win.  Elmwood Park falls to 2-10.

Prior to the game, Hasbrouck Heights honored the seniors from both squads in a pre-game ceremony. Hitchcock Field was decorated with orange and black balloons and streamers, and handmade banners honoring four Lady Aviator seniors. Head Coach Rich Aponte recognized each player - Dariana Antigua, Caylie Daniels, Liana D'Amore, and Anna Lisee Vasquez, and each girl was presented with a gift basket. Aponte also recognized three Elmwood Park seniors - Isabelle Scarpulla, Madison Santillan, and Annali DeDios, who were given flowers. After the ceremony, players posed for photos with their families.

The Lady Aviators jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Elmwood Park rallied with three in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-3.  After a single run in the third and fourth for Hasbrouck Heights extended the lead to 6-3, Elmwood Park rallied back, scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game 6-6.

Mackenzie Riordan had three hits on the day, stole four bases and scored three runs, while Kailen Peterson has two runs batted in for the Aviators.

Christina Scarpulla had four hits for Elmwood Park, while Isasbella Scarpulla added three more as the Bombers had 10 hits on the day.

Madelyn Connelly picked up the win for Hasbrouck Heights, allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits while walking two and striking out nine.
