Prep roundup: Hartland's Cameron Cheetam wins twice at Freeland track and field meet

Hartland senior Cameron Cheetam won two events and placed second in another Saturday in the Freeland Invitational track and field meet.

Cheetam won the 200-meter dash in 22.18 seconds and the 400 in 50.44. His time of 11.22 in the 100 was second.

Cheetam’s time in the 400 ranks second in school history to Alexander Yon’s 48.91 in 2022.

Also winning events for Hartland were Evan Bryan with a leap of 19 feet, 0.25 inches in long jump and Dylan Lawrence with a personal-best effort of 6-4 in high jump.

Christian Fedewa was fourth in the 110 hurdles for the Eagles, who were fourth out of 12 teams.

Charyl Stockwell’s Nathan Vaske took second in pole vault, setting a school record by clearing 12-6.

In the girls meet, Hartland senior Aubree Meyer won shot put with a toss of 37-6.

Elliana Neuer was third in the 1,600 in 5:22.80 and fourth in the 800 in 2:26.28 for the Eagles, who were fifth as a team. Hartland freshman Ava Goodman was third in the 3,200 in 12:25.97.

Charyl Stockwell’s Becka Lethorn was third in pole vault at 8-0.

Novi Relays

Pinckney took second out of 14 scoring teams in the girls meet and fourth out of 15 scoring teams in the boys meet.

Pinckney’s girls took second in four relays. Davea Crowe, Brielle Reason, CeCe Thorington, Jaelyn Ray and Delaney Mays were each on two winning relays.

Madison Cooke took third in pole vault at 8-6, while Nadia Jacobs tied for fourth at 8-0 for the Pirates.

Pinckney won two relays in the boys meet.

Ethan Sandula, Parker Hays, Zach Newman and Paul Moore won the 6,400 relay in 18:54.96. Newman, Jim Rochowiak, Sandula and Moore won the distance medley relay in 11:11.92.

Colton Spinelli was third in pole vault at 12-6.

Lansing Catholic Relays

Howell’s Noah Thames won pole vault by clearing 13 feet and was on the winning 2,400 relay team with Drake Wallace, Logan Goethe and Noah DeLand.

Romen Williams was second in high jump at 6-0 and fourth in the 300 hurdles in 44.25. Jack MacGregor was fourth in the 3,200 in 10:06 for the Highlanders, who were fourth out of 10 teams.

Annie Yang was third in the 100 hurdles (17.42) and Maura Lichiello was third in the 3,200 (12:30) for Howell. Lexie Le, Madison Gill and Samantha Kong of Howell tied for third in high jump at 4-7.

Maria Petru was fourth in pole vault at 7-6 and Emma Kanka was fourth in discus at 98-9 for the Highlanders, who were sixth as a team.

Warrior Invitational

Livingston Christian sophomore Taylor Wiegand won the 1,600 in 5:40.86 and was second in the 800 in 2:38.70 at Grass Lake.

Girls lacrosse

East-West Play Day

Brighton went 3-0, including a 10-5 victory over a host East Grand Rapids team that has played in the last four state Division 2 championship games.

The Bulldogs also beat Spring Lake, 14-7, and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central, 12-6.

Georgia Gill had 10 goals and three assists, Cece Mainhardt had nine goals and one assist, and Ella Toth had six goals and six assists for the Bulldogs (7-0).

Brighton 17, Forest Hills Northern-Eastern 5

Gill had five goals and four assists in a one-sided rematch of the last two state Division 1 championship games, both of which were won by Brighton.

Sophia Heady had five goals, Mainhardt had three goals and two assists, and Toth had three goals.

Hartland 16, Canton 0

Sam Mollard had five goals and Libby Knapp four.

Baseball

Brighton 10-15, Detroit Western 0 -5

Brighton’s Lane Petit went 4-for-7, with one home run and four RBIs in the doubleheader. Petit is hitting .480 with two homers and a team-high 12 RBIs through eight games.

Brighton scored eight runs in the first inning of each game.

Ryan Metz was 3-for-6 with three RBIs in the twinbill. Aden Bailey drove in three runs in the second game.

Andrew Everson pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits, in the first game.

Hartland 12-8, South Lyon 11 (8) -1

Brayden Crowe’s two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning forced extra innings in the opener. Crowe had four RBIs, going 3-for-5.

Braxton Resky was 3-for-4, Brady Quinn was 3-for-6 and Ty Kraut had two doubles for the Eagles (5-4-1).

Justin Fisher struck out eight batters in five innings in the second game. Dylan Crowe, Oscar Pace and Landon Brown each drove in two runs.

Dundee 13-5, Pinckney 2 -11

Nolan Carruthers drove in four runs in the second game and Hayden Beaver was 3-for-4 with a double and triple for Pinckney (2-3-1).

Softball

Brighton Invitational

Brighton went 1-3, beating Montrose 3-2 and losing 5-1 to Clinton, 6-5 to Milford and 15-4 to Riverview.

Lauren Damron hit a three-run homer in the first inning to account for all of Brighton’s runs in its victory over Montrose.

Boys lacrosse

Hartland 12, East Grand Rapids 9

Drew Lockwood had four goals and three assists, as Hartland beat an East Grand Rapids team that has won six state Division 2 championships.

Jacob Ross had three goals and one assist, while Clayton Penzien had two goals for the Eagles.

Brighton 12, Grand Haven 4

Joe Libler and Connor Kammer each scored three goals for Brighton (5-1).

Soccer

Milan 1, Pinckney 0

Pinckney lost for the first time after a 2-0 start.

Rugby

Brighton 70, New Baltimore Anchor Bay 5

Xavier McNeil had 15 points, while Jonas Deal and Banks Lilly each had 10 for Brighton.
