HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Authorities are investigating after fishermen spotted a body in the Connecticut River Monday by Charter Oak Landing in Hartford.

Hartford Fire Department Chief Mario Oquendo Jr. said firefighters responded just after noon for a report of a body near Charter Oak Landing. When crews arrived on the scene, they learned that a shore-based fisherman found and snagged a man’s body.

Hartford police said the man had been in the water for quite a while so identification will be difficult. He could have drifted downriver from northern Connecticut, Massachusetts or Vermont, especially with the recent rains and fast-flowing River.

“We don’t know where it came from; we don’t have any idea at this point,” Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said.

The medical examiner will perform the autopsy to see if they can determine the cause of death.
