80th Annual Sportsmen’s Club Fishing Derby
Fisherpeople (*notice the political correctness there) descended on the Buckeye Lake Sunday afternoon, under clear skies, for the 80th Annual Bluffton Fishing Derby. They came from a 75-mile radius, some even from beyond. These anglers, angling for prime spots along the bank, also angled to catch some 500 lbs. of tagged trout. (*Tagged to some $4,000 in cash and prizes!)
West Middle School students go on a fishing adventure thanks to the City of Lima and ODNR
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It was all smiles as some lucky students from Lima's West Middle School took a fishing expedition. Several of these students have never had the chance to fish or ride in a boat, but that all changed today. It has become an annual event that the City of Lima's Park and Recreation and Utilities Department, along with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, provide for Allen County students. Rods, reels, wax worms, and instructions are provided for the kids to have a great experience. 7th and 8th graders even got the chance to go aboard a small boat and take a spin around Sertoma Pond in Faurot Park. The goal of the event is to teach the youngsters a new life skill.
Local students’ artwork displayed at Airstream HQ
Entries from the Urban Art Fair, created by fifth- and sixth-grade art students at Logan-Hocking Middle School, are currently on display in the visitor’s center of the Airstream World Headquarters in Jackson Center, Ohio, and will be until June 30. Urban Air’s annual “Wake Up Downtown Logan” event, which took place in Logan May 2–4, included an art competition for local students. Their drawings were displayed in downtown storefront windows from April 25-May 3, with the public voting for their favorite entries. A panel of professional artists also judged the top entries and awarded prizes.

One of the stars of “The Book of Mormon,” the Toledo native and Ohio Northern University alum said coming back to the area for Tuesday night’s performance at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center would be a cool thing to experience.
