Ball Control is the Key Factor in the Last Four Games for Harlan Boy’s Soccer

(Harlan, IA) – On Monday night, the Harlan boy’s soccer team kept things close at the start against Council Bluffs Lincoln but ended up falling in a 6-0 loss. This Harlan team is a perfect mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen working together on the field and are still looking to gel better together. Sometimes it takes the tough losses along the way to gel better together as a team. Head Coach Pat Sheldon is proud of how his experienced and inexperienced players continue to work together this season.

One player that made a major impact last season was Ian Shelton. The reason for him not being able to make a major impact this season is that he is currently nursing a quad injury that has limited his playing time. With Shelton out, it gives other teams an advantage on the field against the Cyclones.

While Shelton is out, Elmer Argueta has stepped into his offensive role. Argueta has pushed the pace for Harlan this season with a total of 7.0 goals on 23 total shots. The senior also leads the team in points with a total of 17 and is on pace to earn even more points and goals this season. The offensive standout also has helped out in assists this year alongside Ian Kearney with a total of three.

Looking ahead for Harlan, the Cyclones will be taking on Carroll this Thursday, May 2nd in a series that they lead 11-2 overall. The last time these two faced off, the game went in Carroll’s favor so we can expect Harlan to want to get that win back this coming Thursday. Coach Shelton knows that they can get that win back if they maintain their shape and rotation while honing in on ball control.

The Cyclones will get back to action on Thursday when they face off against Carroll at home with the game starting at 7:00 p.m.
