Miles Lumber Had Huge Turnout for Greenhouse Opening
The Miles Lumber Company hosted a grand-opening event for their new greenhouse on the property. It was reported that over 100 individuals were waiting for the gates to open at the start of the 2-hour event. There were a variety of plants and gardening materials available, and people were quite happy with the choices that they had from a local vendor. Supporting local business was a high priority.

R.P. Lumber acquiring Mount Carroll Home Center
This single-location acquisition bolsters Edwardsville-based retailer’s ability to service Northwestern Illinois. R.P. Lumber Co., Inc. is slated to acquire the Mount Carroll Home Center, an independently owned retailer of hardware, lumber, and building materials in Mount Carroll, Ill. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction, scheduled to close on Friday, May 17, marks R.P. Lumber’s fourth acquisition this year and its first location in Carroll County.
River Ridge one-hit by Argyle/Black Hawk
Limited to just one hit, coach Andrew Redman’s River Ridge baseball team fell to host Argyle/Black Hawk last Friday night, 3-1. Preston Growth & Development Golf Outing Was a Success!
The Preston Growth and Development Committee hosted its Annual Golf Fundraiser at the Preston Valley Golf Course on Saturday May 4th. Nineteen teams participated in the fundraising event and enjoyed a round of golf, beverages, lunch, 50/50 drawings and special challenges. The proceeds for the event will be used for the final items for this summer’s completion of Peppermint Park. The committee thanks all that assisted in the event and especially the hole sponsors, grillers, bakers and of course, the Fiers, owner/operators of the golf course and the teams of golfers.
