Niumalu Bridge on Kaua‘i closed till further notice
Niumalu Bridge on Niumalu Road near Hulemalu Road is closed until further notice. Following the flooding event in April, Kaua‘i County consultants inspected county bridges across the island and determined that the Niumalu Bridge was unsafe for motorists, prompting an immediate shutdown. County Engineer Troy Tanigawa confirmed the structure has permanent damage, which will require a full replacement.

Kaua‘i firefighters extinguished several brush fires May 2 in Anahola. No injuries or damaged structures were reported. The blazes scorched about 5 acres.
