VALDOSTA – At halftime, Valdosta High School named the 2023 Homecoming King and Queen during last weeks game against Deerfield Beach. Valdosta High School Senior, Canardia Berrian, was named the 2023 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the Deerfield Beach Bucks vs. Valdosta Wildcats football game on Friday, September 15, 2023. After an open week, our Vikings will return to play on Friday, October 6, 2023 when they will travel across the county to open region play against rival Valdosta High. Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm on Cleveland Field. This will be the Region 1-7A opener for both teams.

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team is set to host two matches this weekend as they prepare for their Gulf South Conference home opener. On Friday, the Chargers will welcome West Georgia for a 6 p.m. matchup on Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Saturday, UAH will welcome another visitor from Georgia as they will play host to Valdosta State at 2 p.m.

Two of high school football's most storied programs opened the season against each other in August with Washington (Massillon, Ohio) beating all-time wins leader Valdosta (Ga.) 28-17. Should Washington (6-0) run the table this season, the Tigers would join Valdosta in a tie for third place on the list of schools with the most undefeated seasons, which is the latest addition to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book.

That’s because Saturday will mark the schools’ first meeting on the gridiron. “It’s not a normal road experience, but to be on a different surface in a different area, different atmosphere will help us as we go to Chowan,” head coach Tremaine Jackson said of the matchup. “We just got to be us and prepare the right way like we’ve been doing, and if we do that, then I think we’ll be okay.”

The Bearcats hope to carry the success from their win over Ware County into their matchup with Brooks County. The Class A 2021 state champions are in a rebuilding period after losing 12 starters from last season. Bearcats head coach Jeff Littleton said the players may be inexperienced, but the program is not.
