    Town of Hadley hosts Memorial Day Parade and ceremonies

    HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Memorial Day is on Monday and the celebrations are in full swing here in the Pioneer Valley.

    Memorial Day: What is it and how to observe

    Sunday is the Hadley Memorial Day Parade and in honor of this holiday, the town is also holding a few special ceremonies to honor those who fought for the country. Leading up to the parade, participants including the firing squad, and town and school officials will be going to four different cemeteries in Hadley for ceremonies.

    The schedule for the ceremonies is as follows:

    • 11:00 a.m. Russellville Cemetery- 442 River Drive
    • 11:15 a.m. Plainville Cemetery- 137 Mount Warner Road
    • 11:40 a.m. Old Hadley Cemetery- 12 Cemetery Road
    • 12:05 p.m. Hockanum Cemetery- 199 Hockanum Road

    The ceremonies are all about remembering and honoring the country’s fallen heroes. Participants will be paying tribute and expressing gratitude for the sacrifices that these veterans made for the country.

    Around noon, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Legioneers will be going to two other cemeteries, the Holy Rosary Cemetary and North Hadley Cemetary. Before the parade, there will be a short ceremony at the Legion and another one at the end of the parade on the north side of the Hadley Common.

    At 1:30 p.m. all participants will be getting ready to walk in the parade that begins at 2 p.m. If you plan on watching the parade, bring your chairs and tents. Also, keep in mind that there will be no parking along the parade route so be sure to head out early to secure a parking spot.
