    WHA boys break course record at Arnold Palmer Invite; Elling takes medalist honors

    The Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys’ golf team set a tournament record when they shot a 302 and won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Deacon’s Lodge May 7.

    Lake Elling also shot a tournament record 68 to win medalist honors and lead WHA. Parker Brock was fourth with a 74, Maverick Reed shot a 78, Michael Dascalos had an 83, Gus Pedersen an 86 and Logan Felton shot a 104.

    Eden Prairie took second with a 312 and Staples-Motley was third with a 318.

    Boys’ conference

    The Wolves won their fourth straight Northern Pines Conference meet of the season Thursday at Bigfork.

    WHA finished with a 145, 20 strokes ahead of Deer River. Cass Lake-Bena took third with a 166 and Nevis was fourth at 168.

    Brock shot a 33 to take medalist honors, while tied for second were Reed and Carter Hillukka of United North Central.

    Pedersen was fourth with a 37, both Elling and Felton shot a 39, and Dascalos had a 40.

    Eli Lewis led Nevis with a 40, Hunter Simon shot a 41, Lealan Norby had a 42, Finn Henry carded a 45 and Kael Netteberg had a 62.

    Girls’ conference

    Kianna Johnson shot a 44 and tied for second at a conference meet held May 7 at Sand Trap Golf Course in Cass Lake.

    Anna Eckman led Park Rapids with a 42 to take medalist honors. Alexa Usher of Park Rapids also shot a 44. WHA’s Dascalos shot a 64.

    The Panthers shot a 134 to take first, UNC took second with a 148, Pine River-Backus took third at 159 and Nevis was fourth with a 210.

    Ella Marotte of Nevis had a 58, Serena Krotzer shot a 70 and Olivia Artis an 82.

    Bemidji Invite

    WHA shot a 326 and finished sixth out of 12 teams at the Bemidji Invite May 6.

    Bemidji won their home invite with a 306, East Grand Forks shot a 315 to finish second and Roseau was third with a 317.

    Weston Seitz of Bemidji shot a 72 to finish first, while Brock tied for second with a 74. Reed shot a 79, Elling had an 85, Pedersen carded an 88, Dascalos shot a 94 and Felton had a 101.

    Headwaters Invite

    Twelve girls’ teams competed at Headwaters Golf Course in Park Rapids May 6.

    Detroit Lakes took first with a 326, Fergus Falls finished second with a 343 and Bemidji was third at 366.

    Landt shot an 86 to take ninth place, nine strokes behind Annika Jyrkes of Fergus Falls, who took first.

    Nevis had two golfers compete with Marotte shooting a 119 and Krotzer finishing with a 152.

    JH meet

    Both the WHA JH boys’ and girls’ teams played at the Park Rapids Invite at Eagleview Golf Course Thursday.

    Leading the boys was Mack Holly with a 43. Corey Weeks carded a 44, and both Trevor Kuechle and Sam McCarthy shot a 65.

    Haylie Brock led the girls with a 49, Elaina Dascalos shot a 63, and Olivia Koch and Natalie Gardner had a 73.

    WHA golfers have meets at Cass Lake-Bena, Nevis and Red Lake this week. The Wolves host a conference meet at Tianna next week, which is the final week of the regular season.
