With only a few items on the agenda, members of the Groesbeck City Council handled business quickly Tuesday, April 16.
City Administrator Chris Henson deferred to Public Works Director Keith Tilley for a request to sell water outside the city limits.
“Karen and Kenneth (Weitzikoski) requested this late last year when we were in our drought situation, and we kind of tabled it until our water situation got a little better, which we're at 100% now,” Tilley said. “They’re asking for a mainline extension where they have a piece of land on LCR 400. We have the capacity out there so it won’t cause any problems.”
Mrs. Weitzikoski was in attendance and provided each council member with a map showing where the extension is needed, following a bit of discussion, the council approved the sale of water to the Weitzikoskis.
The Council designated a city bank depository after receiving bids from both local banks, Citizens State Bank and Farmers State Bank. Council member Lee Cox stated that, based on the interest rates that had been provided, Farmers won his vote; his fellow board members felt the same and approved Farmers State Bank as the city’s bank depository.
Henson provided a quick update on the upcoming season of city pool operations, stating that he had tightened up reservation requirements to ensure that bookings of the pool for private parties are always paid in advance. The season is slated to last about nine weeks, from May 28 to August 3.
Henson also commented on visitor impact in Groesbeck for the recent total solar eclipse.
“When we had the eclipse, we had roughly 75-100 at Hawkins Park and roughly 300 at the City Park, and when those people left, there wasn’t a scrap of paper or a bottle or a piece of trash on the ground,” Henson said. “They actually left it better than they found it and we were really pleased that they treated (those locations) so well.”
The meeting adjourned just before reaching the ten-minute mark.
The next Groesbeck City Council meeting is slated for Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in the City Commons.
