IndyCar driver greets central Iowa fans, talks July race at Iowa Speedway

GRIMES, Iowa (WHO) — IndyCar driver Christian Lundgaard isn’t the average 22-year-old celebrating college graduation, he is getting ready for a visit to the Iowa Speedway in July.

Lundgaard stopped at the Hy-Vee in Grimes Tuesday for a meet and greet with fans. He’s promoting the IndyCar Weekend this summer at the Iowa Speedway in Newton.

He signed autographs, posed for photos, and talked to WHO 13 about the challenges of IndyCar racing.

“Europeans we’re used to road courses, and we’re used to street circuits. In America, you have a total new aspect of ovals and Iowa Speedway being one of those, Indianapolis 500 being one of those. But again, those two types are different it’s a superspeedway and it’s a short oval. So, it kind of brings four different types of tracks to the challenge. and I think that’s what makes IndyCar so tricky because you got to be competitive and fast on all four types of circuits,” said Lundgaard.

Hy-Vee IndyCar race weekend runs July 12th-14th.

Free Family Friday returns, with the chance for fans to watch practice and qualifying. There are INDYCAR races on Saturday and Sunday, along with concerts from popular music artists. Luke Combs and Eric Church are performing Saturday, July 13th. On Sunday, July 14th Kelsea Ballerini and Post Malone have concerts.
