Veterinarian supplier moves to Grimes, doubles in size

An international distributor of veterinarian supplies has moved its Des Moines metro offices from Urbandale to Grimes, doubling its size in the process.

Covetrus new offices will be at 400 S.E. 41 ^st St. in Grimes, where it is leasing space in a new facility owned by R&R Realty Group of West Des Moines.

Todd Worthington, senior director of operations and logistics at Covetrus, said in an email that remaining in the metro was advantageous for the company.

“We decided to stay in the Des Moines area for several reasons," Worthington, said. "First, the new facility, which nearly doubles our footprint in the area, is only a few miles from the former site. Second, we chose to remain in the area to help us retain our talented workforce and maintain our relationships with our delivery partners to service customer orders on a next day delivery in these states."

Worthington said a third reason is that the metro offers broad access to the upper Midwest region and the growing needs of major veterinary colleges as well as large animal, equine and small animal veterinarians.

Headquartered in Portland, Maine, Covetrus operates 14 distribution centers and seven telecommunication centers across the United States. The company, which is building up to 40 local employees following its move to Grimes, employs 5,500 workers worldwide and operates in 19 countries serving 100,000 customers. The company’s distributes more than 5,000 different products.

From its new location in Grimes, Covetrus will primarily serve veterinarians and their practices in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, North Dakota, Texas, Wyoming and Wisconsin.
