Canyon baseball eliminates Springtown to advance to regional final for first time since 2003
WOLFFORTH, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles took down the Springtown Porcupines 8-1 on Thursday night to advance in the high school baseball playoffs. Through the first four innings of the game, Springtown pitcher Brayden Fox was the star of the show. The Angelo State commit secured 10 of the first 12 outs of the game via strikeout, holding Canyon scoreless until the fifth inning.

Why was the North Texas tornado-producing supercell so strong and long-lived?
DALLAS — It was a very busy Saturday night due to a long-lived supercell thunderstorm caused abundant damage and produced at least an EF-3 tornado northeast of Celina and a long-track EF-2 tornado from Montague County thru Cooke County and into Denton County. Damage surveys continue and more details on how many tornadoes and exact ratings will be known in the coming days.

AZLE —To make a deal with a “Hornet,” Azle students had to put their creativity and confidence to the test. On Wednesday, May 15, Azle ISD students got to experience a mock version of the television series “Shark Tank,” where they pitched ideas and inventions to local leaders and business owners. The event was the culmination of an 18-week-long project by fourth through sixth grade teams in Azle ISD’s Gifted and Talented Program. From 9 a.m. to noon, students entered the “Hornet’s Nest” to receive spoken and written feedback from the judges and their peers. Each group displayed its pitch using PowerPoint presentations and live demonstrations. At the program’s end, GT teacher Rebecca Windham and instructional coach Breanna Reed announced the top three winners from each participating grade.

Led by Associate Professor Tristan Wu from UNT’s Department of Emergency Management and Disaster Science, the research focuses on understanding household communication and decision-making during tornado threats.
