GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Greenwich police are upping patrols after seeing an increase in thieves trying to steal high-end vehicles — sometimes with suspects entering homes overnight.

The thefts, which have included BMWs, have happened between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to officers.

If the cars aren’t unlocked, the thieves will trying getting into homes through unlocked doors. They’ll then steal the keys from inside.

Officers found an auto theft group on Thursday morning, but the group quickly drove off before police could arrest them, according to authorities.

Police plan to conduct more, high-visibility patrols and will assign more officers to the auto theft detail.
