Greenville teen arrested after mother is found dead with gunshot wound to the head

Greenville teen has been arrested and charged in the death of his mother.

According to Greenville Police Sgt. Diana Munoz, Nyjaylan Smith, 19, was charged with murder on Friday in connection with the death of Antrina Natasha Smith, 42.

Earlier Friday, police officers responded to a call of a shooting in the Berkley Pointe Apartments on 500 Wenwood Rd. When officers arrived, they found Smith with a gunshot wound to the head.

The Greenville County Coroner's office declared her dead at 1:38 p.m.

According to warrants received from Munoz, Smith accosted his mother in her bedroom before getting a handgun and shooting her.

Smith also faces a charge of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
